The youth music event of the year is just around the corner. Gig At The Grand 2019 will take place on Wed 17th and Thu 18th April at The Classic Grand in Glasgow. The shows are the culmination of this year’s Behind The Noise project featuring electric live performances by pupils from 16 schools across Renfrewshire and Glasgow.
Throughout the year they have taken part in a series of workshops, open days, coached rehearsals and recording sessions. We’re delighted to say that ALL of this year’s groups have produced an original track achieving over 15,000 plays on Soundcloud since their March release.
This year’s shows will be hosted by BBC presentersVic Galloway and Nicola Meighan. Previous BTN students Awkward Family Portraits will close the show on Wednesday with the excellent Fauna bringing proceedings to an end on Thursday. Get yourself along and support youth music in Scotland!
As part of the official opening ceremony for this year’s European Championship Games we are delighted to announce that the Behind The Noise Bowie Tribute Band will take to the main stage to perform their excellent version of the classic track ‘Heroes‘. This is a ticketed event and will take place on August 1st 2018.
The band features 7 ex-students from schools in Glasgow and Renfrewshire. They originally formed as a tribute to the late artist in 2016 and have since played 3 sold-out shows at The Classic Grand and The Royal Concert Hall as part of The Duke Of Edinburgh Awards.
Videos now live from this year’s spectacular shows. Two of the vibiest ever #BehindTheNoise gigs.
A HUGE thanks to the students at the Glasgow Kelvin College film department for their excellent work putting these together, much appreciated guys.
Congratulations to all students who took part in this year’s project and achieved their SQA – SCQF Level 5 Award!
Well done guys!
A total of 135 Creative Project and Live Performance Awards were achieved. This has been a great new addition to the project and our thanks go out to Glasgow Kelvin College for their assistance with the administration.
Due to the cancellation of last weekend’s event because of severe weather and the knock-on effect it’s having on the schedule we’ve had to make some important changes to the upcoming events so please read carefully below. Thanks!
BTN PRE-PRODUCTION DAY will now take place this coming SATURDAY 10th March, 2pm-4pm on the first floor of The Classic Grand, 18 Jamaica St. Glasgow.
On Saturday you will receive your ticket allocation for the shows, your very cool looking printed posters and we’ll launch all of this year’s recordings live on Soundcloud. The whole BTN team will be there to take you through a number of things that you’ll need to know for the upcoming rehearsals and the shows which are getting closer by the day. We expect to see all of you there!
VIDEO WORKSHOPS will also go ahead as planned on Saturday at your usual time slot UNLESS we have contacted your group directly to re-arrange. For Glasgow schools this is the case for Springburn, Bannerman and Rosshall only. Remember to bring all film clips, images and good ideas with you. We’re also looking for each group to bring some short interview footage with some of your group members about their journey through BTN this year. The more prepared you are, the better your film will be. Check out some from last year HERE
IMPORTANT FOR RENFREWSHIRE SCHOOLS ONLY
We are postponing your video workshops this weekend and will re-schedule with each group when we see you at the launch day on Saturday. This decision was made in conjunction with Renfrewshire Council due to the Rangers v Celtic match taking place on the same day. With the football starting and finishing at a similar time to your workshops we felt it best to avoid you having to travel at the same time as the supporters.
Sorry guys! These changes have been somewhat unavoidable.
